A community that loves dogs just as much as you do!

Welcome to Ashdown Forest Dogs!

Welcome to Ashdown Forest Dogs, where community dog walking is more than just a walk in the woods. It's a chance to connect, explore, and share stories, laughter, and experiences with like-minded individuals. Join us on this journey toward a healthier, happier you, where every step brings us closer together and deeper into the heart of nature.

Personal Testimonial: Carole & John Webster, Cowden

“The group has been of great help with our two dogs, Bumble & especially Bee. Bee is a young, very energetic Labrador, and she loves going on group walks as it allows her to socialise with other dogs and have fun safely. The group also supports its members and their dogs, regardless of fitness level or ability. Zita ensures that everyone can enjoy the Ashdown Forest, opening up parts of the forest they may not know, even though they have lived here for many years. There is also a fun social side to the group; we have had a pub lunch and a curry evening, which allowed chatting & exchange of ideas. Other events are planned, and regular polls are held to give every member a say on what they would enjoy with their furry friend. Whether you’re a dog lover with or without a four-legged companion, we’re confident you’ll find plenty of fun and friendship within our community.”

In today's fast-paced world, where feelings of disconnection and isolation are all too common, social dog walking offers a wealth of benefits that enrich our lives:

Connection: Walking isn't merely about putting one foot in front of the other; it's an opportunity to connect with ourselves and those around us. It's like hitting the pause button on life's distractions and immersing ourselves in the present moment. Walking together strengthens our social bonds, fostering a sense of connection and support.

Community: Embarking on walks together brings people closer, thanks to the oxytocin boost from being around others. It breaks down barriers and helps us form genuine connections, even with strangers. Plus, it's a fantastic way to expand our social circles and enjoy some light-hearted moments along the way!

With over 20+ years of experience running Pet Patrol 365, and a lifetime with her own animals, Zita Wells is a pet enthusiast who deeply understands the special bond between dogs and their owners. She created "Ashdown Forest Dogs" to provide a nurturing environment filled with guidance, camaraderie, and face-to-face connections.

Personal Testimonial: Roz Zor - Crowborough

“We moved to the area recently, so the group has been a great way to meet new people, continue to socialise our two dogs and explore the forest, which can be a bit daunting to navigate solo. The dogs really enjoy walking in a group, and it has had a positive impact on their behaviour off the lead.”

If you're ready to experience the power of community walking for yourself, we invite you to join us. Learn more about Ashdown Forest Dogs and how you can become a part of our thriving community here: Ashdown Forest Dogs.

Accessibility

Please note that many of our walks feature rough footpaths, rendering them unsuitable for pushchairs or wheelchairs.

If you have specific mobility needs or disabilities, please get in touch to discuss which walks may be more accommodating for you.

Group Guidelines

We've established some guidelines for everyone's benefit to create a pleasant walking environment. Your adherence to these rules ensures safety and enjoyment for all participants. It's important to recognise the significance of these guidelines, as failure to comply may lead to removal from the group.

Dogs on Lead: Please keep your dogs on a lead or under close control, especially when encountering horses, joggers, small children, livestock, near roads, or in car parks.

Dogs off Lead: We prioritise the well-being of dogs and the safety of all involved. While it's great to witness dogs enjoying their freedom, managing their energy levels and preventing jumping on other dogs or at people is crucial. If your dog gets too excited and struggles to stay calm, gently guide them back to a relaxed state. You should temporarily put them on the lead until they settle down and refocus.

Leave No Trace: Let your footwear be the only thing leaving footprints behind.

Nature Calls: There are no facilities in Ashdown Forest (with the exception of The Ashdown Forest Visitor Centre). If nature calls, please find a secluded spot away from members and other forest users.

Stay on Track: Avoid disturbing native plants, wildlife, and livestock during your walk.

Noise Consideration: Keep noise levels to a minimum, including reducing dog barking and refraining from loud phone conversations that might disturb fellow walkers' peace.

Take Your Time: Our walks provide an ideal opportunity for genuine discussions and personal connections. Please refrain from using this time for promotional purposes.

Hello: Say "hello" to other forest users.  Be considerate. Show each other respect. Being courteous is important.
